Maze of life

I wonder how a person can know exactly whether an event of their life is game-changing or not. I believe everything that happens to us, every small decision, is a game changer. Every time we move somewhere we step onto another part of the maze of life.

And the thing is, something that didn’t happen affects our life as much as something that actually happened.

When we decide not to move at all, at that very moment we start moving in the opposite direction. It’s like an unjust board game. If you decide to skip a turn not throwing the dice, be aware someone else will do it for you and you may not like the results.

But if you have the courage to take a step into uncertainty, be ready to face new reality. The more transitions you make, the more complex your life pattern becomes.

The post ended up being slightly philosophical. To make sure I have a brain (not only sensitive Russian soul) see the previous one.

  1. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I like to move forward as much as I can but we have to look back from time to time to inform our direction:-) Life doesn’t come in a straight line though:-)

    • Every sensible person remembers about the past and makes decisions looking at the past mistakes in order to not repeat them. And where exactly in my thoughts or pictures do you see straight lines?

      • Sorry for any misunderstanding. My commentary was based on my own thoughts/take on life provoked by your post. Clearly not arguing against what you posited.

      • Thanks for your response Marta. As I said the other day, I like your writing. Also as you posted the other day, what people pick up on your reader can have some impact depending on when they are reading and what they are going through. Sometimes our words can have unintended consequences. I’m definitely trying to get through a maze in my life and I know that even if I’m hellbent on moving forward, I might reach dead ends, need to walk sideways and even take a step back in order to move forward. Rest assured that your post had significance for me and my own philosophy on life 🙂

  2. I enjoy this side of you Marta, You are multi-faceted and judging from your reflective avatar, a real jewel. I can’t speak for others but for me, I noticed life changing events usually followed hard impacts with reality. I lived by the rule of thumb that bullets are small and I was thin and the world had lots of empty space to move in, so I kept moving – quickly sometimes. 😀

It happened quite a lot of times with me..and yes, I do regret leaving those opportunities…your post made me realise this is the mistake I have been doing…and Now, I gotta stop that and take my turn. 🙂
And about being philosophical? I love philosophy! 🙂

  4. y so deep? you make my philosophical rumbings and rantings become insignificant with one paragraph. But then again Russians are very philosophical, look at Tolstoy.

  5. I also agree! Every moment is a choice – use it or lose it! (that was my motto at some point 🙂
Anyway, sometimes I feel giddy when I think how different my life could be if I had made other choices in my life

    • I try not to think about lost alternatives and ‘opportunity cost’. Instead, I persuade myself everything is as it should be. Otherwise I’m at risk of becoming too fatalistic 🙂

  6. Yes.. Very true… We have to take decisions in time.. And if we don’t take them at the right time we move in the opposite direction… Every small decision we take has a larger impact in our life.. We have to take the chance when opportunity Knocks the door..
    Thanks.. Have a good time.
